Buying from markets in the Costa Blanca can be a very rewarding experience. There are real bargains to be had, especially at quality markets such as Zoco and Playa Flamenca. Spanish markets are an institution and no holiday trip seems complete without a visit (especially for the fairer sex). There are pitfalls however. For example, if you are purchasing clothing of any description it can be difficult to try it on, Underwear and Bras especially so. Few stalls will have changing facilities and undressing at the front of a stall is not exactly a five star experience. My lingerie stall has been specially adapted for this with people in mind. Just because you run a market stall does not mean you can’t provided comfort to customers.

Even if you do manage to find exactly what you want, will they have it in your size? What if there is a problem with the goods. Either, shoddy workmanship or just purchased the wrong size? Market stalls do not issue receipts and many will not entertain returns or exchanges.

With many goods these issues don’t really matter but with clothing especially they are vital. So what can you do to make sure that you are buying from a retailer whom you can trust to give you the customer service you deserve?

Purchasing from a walk in stall is helpful as you can at least try on the item without embarrassment. Also, make sure you remember the word “CAMBIAR”. It literally means “change” and if you say it with a question mark they will understand. At our Lingerie stall we always offer exchange for any other goods without question. Any quality stall holder should do the same

Most importantly, if you are buying clothing make sure it is from a quality provider. It is possible to buy very cheap lingerie from Spanish markets but the only way to ensure value is to buy quality goods from household names. I sell branded goods such as; Naturana, M&S, Ballet etc. With these you will not only find comfort and workmanship but they will last and, ultimately will save you money and provide comfort.

Now is a great time to buy as the Pound goes a long way against the Euro currently. You can find real bargains out there. I have branded goods on my stall that are a fraction of the price in the UK at the moment. Stall holders who import from abroad have great value to offer.
